After demolishing the lavish $36.8 million mansion he purchased in September 2020, LeBron James has finally begun construction on his dream Beverly Hills home.

After a two-year legal battle, the NBA legend has finally been given the go-ahead to begin construction on the plot of land, with builders flocking to the site this week to get the long-stalled project up and running.

The sheer scale of the construction is revealed in exclusive images obtained by DailyMail.com, with mounds of dirt replacing the mansion where Katharine Hepburn lived during her prime.

The 1930s property was owned by Hollywood actor Charles Boyer before being purchased by Howard Hughes, who leased it to Hepburn.

After Hepburn left, the house was owned by non-celebrities for many years until 1986, when The Young and the Restless creators William Brent Bell and Lee Phillip Bell paid $2.9 million for it.

Work on LeBron James’ new dream home has begun after he demolished a $36.8 million mansion he purchased three years ago.

The builders arrived this week to begin work on the vast plot of land that once housed a magnificent mansion.

As he constructs his brand new property, the NBA star appears to be signaling his desire to stay in Los Angeles for the long term.

On Tuesday, James posed with his wife Savannah at Paris Fashion Week as he considers his NBA future.

A cement mixer arrives at James’ Beverly Hills mansion, where his dream home is being built on a $36.8 million plot of land.

Another view of the property reveals the enormity of the project, with many builders already on the job.

LeBron purchased the property in September 2020, but it appears he had very different plans for the famous home, obtaining permission to demolish it just a few years before its 100th birthday.

The property included multiple buildings on a massive 2.5 acre plot, on which James will now sculpt his dream property, demonstrating his commitment to staying in Los Angeles long after his playing career ends.

The property is also protected by one of Los Angeles’ largest driveway gates.

After the Lakers were eliminated from the NBA playoffs by the eventual champion Denver Nuggets in May, the NBA legend is contemplating his next move.

Immediately after the game, James teased the possibility of retirement at the age of 38, telling reporters: ‘I got a lot to think about. Personally, as I progress in the game of basketball, I have a lot to think about.’

Before it was demolished, the land was home to a massive mansion where Hollywood legend Audrey Hepburn once resided.

image

The original house, which no longer exists, was built in the 1930s and was owned by Hollywood actor Charles Boyer.

image

The former residence also had a full theatrical screening room and seven fireplaces strategically placed throughout the sprawling property.

After Hepburn left, the house was owned by non-celebrities for many years until it was purchased for $2.9 million in 1986.

‘Multiple alfresco dining and entertaining areas, and a lighted tennis court with viewing pavilion’ were among the other features.

When it comes time for James to retire, he has made no secret of his desire to own an NBA expansion team in Las Vegas.

‘It’s wonderful,’ he said after playing in a preseason game in Sin City last year. It has the best fanbase in the world, and I’d love to bring a team here someday. That would be incredible.

‘I know Adam [Silver] is in Abu Dhabi right now, I believe with the Bucks and Atlanta, but he probably sees every single interview and transcript that comes through from NBA players, so I want the team here, Adam, thank you,’ says the team’s president.

On the court, James has been in Los Angeles for five seasons – and clearly sees his long-term future in the California city

Bronny, James’ son, is also a rising basketball star who will attend the University of Southern California this year.

Regardless of whether that plan comes to fruition, James has made a significant commitment to the city of Los Angeles by purchasing the land and planning to build his dream home in Beverly Hills.

In the coming years, his son Bronny – and possibly his second son Bryce – will likely grace the NBA court as they advance through the ranks.

Bronny recently signed with the University of Southern California, which keeps him close to his father’s new work-in-progress mansion.

USC is only a 30-minute, 10-mile drive from LeBron’s Beverly Hills home, which is another reason he may want to stay in town for the foreseeable future.
